Steel Fire Protection Specialists

FireCoatings is a specialist contractor delivering compliant intumescent coatings and passive fire protection for structural steel across commercial and industrial projects. Our work is defined by technical control, disciplined application and verified performance on site. We focus on doing the fundamentals properly — correct preparation, controlled application and documented quality — to ensure every system we install performs as designed under fire conditions.
Specialists in structural steel fire protection
We work with main contractors, steel fabricators, fire engineers, developers and QSs to deliver compliant intumescent coatings and passive fire-protection systems for structural steel. Origins

Our Journey into Structural Steel Fire Protection

FireCoatings is built on years of hands-on experience in protective coatings, with a clear progression into specialist structural steel fire protection. The timeline below highlights how the business has evolved,  from its foundations in professional coating work to becoming a dedicated, process-led contractor delivering compliant intumescent systems on commercial and industrial projects.
Pre-2020 — Foundations in Painting & Coatings
Before forming NuColour, the business was built on years of hands-on experience working as a sole trader in painting and coatings. This period laid the technical foundations that still shape how we work today, attention to detail, disciplined preparation and pride in finish.
April 2020 — NuColour Is Founded
NuColour was established in April 2020 with a clear focus on specialist protective coatings for commercial and industrial environments. From the outset, the business was structured around airless spraying, controlled application and professional site delivery rather than general decorative work.
2021 — Move Into Structural Steel & Intumescent Coatings
The following year, NuColour began carrying out structural steel fire protection and intumescent coating works. A long-term client approached us for advice and delivery on an intumescent coatings project they were involved in, marking a key turning point in the business. From that point on, fire protection for steel became a core service.
2021 — Early Investment in QA & Compliance
From the start of intumescent works, NuColour invested heavily in quality assurance, Wet Film Thickness (WFT) control and compliance systems. Rather than treating QA as an add-on, structured monitoring, logging and documentation were embedded into daily site operations from day one.
2022 — Repeat Work From Main Contractors
By 2022, the business was delivering repeat intumescent and steel fire-protection works for main contractors, reflecting growing trust in NuColour’s technical approach, reliability and ability to deliver compliant outcomes on live construction projects.
Today — Specialist Steel Fire Protection
Today, NuColour operates as an established specialist in structural steel fire protection, delivering intumescent coatings across new-build and existing steel projects. FireCoatings.co.uk has been launched as a dedicated specialist brand, built on years of real-world experience, structured systems and a proven, process-led approach to fire protection.
