FireCoatings and NuColour Ltd

FireCoatings.co.uk is a trading style of NuColour Ltd, created to focus our structural-steel intumescent and associated preparation services. Leadership, health-and-safety arrangements, workforce training, operational procedures and company memberships are managed through NuColour Ltd.

This gives clients one accountable contracting entity and a consistent management structure, while keeping the FireCoatings service focused on the technical and practical demands of structural-steel projects.
From the Founder

“After a decade in the protective coatings industry, I built FireCoatings to deliver fire protection without unnecessary noise — just clear documentation, a controlled application process, and professional site practice.”

Our Story

Our Journey into Structural-Steel Fire Protection

FireCoatings builds on practical experience in commercial and industrial coatings and a deliberate move into structural-steel intumescent application. The timeline below explains how NuColour developed its people, equipment and project processes before establishing FireCoatings as a dedicated service brand.
Pre-2020 — Foundations in Painting and Coatings
Before NuColour was formed, Myles worked as a sole trader delivering painting and coating projects. That experience developed the preparation discipline, spray-application skills and attention to finish that continue to shape the business.
April 2020 — NuColour Ltd Is Incorporated
NuColour Ltd was incorporated in April 2020 to deliver specialist spraying and coating services in commercial and industrial environments. The business invested in airless-spray equipment, site-management processes and controlled application.
2021 — Structural-Steel Intumescent Work Begins
In 2021, NuColour began delivering intumescent-coating work for structural steel after an existing client asked the team to support a project. That experience led the company to develop structural-steel intumescent application as a specialist service area.
2021 — Application Controls and Project Records
Alongside the new service, NuColour introduced project controls for wet-film thickness checks, application-condition monitoring and work records. These processes have continued to develop as project requirements and team capability have grown.
2022 — Repeat Main-Contractor Projects
By 2022, repeat appointments from main contractors were helping establish structural-steel intumescent coating as a core part of the business. The work included delivery within active construction programmes and refurbishment environments.
Today — A Dedicated Intumescent Coating Service
Today, FireCoatings is NuColour Ltd’s dedicated structural-steel intumescent service brand. We deliver on-site application for new-build, refurbishment and remedial projects, with pre-install work available for suitable project scopes.

What We Do

Structural-Steel Intumescent Coating Services

We support new-build, refurbishment and remedial steelwork through surface preparation, intumescent application, inspection and agreed project records. Work is planned around the accepted project documents, selected coating system and site constraints.

Intumescent Coating

On-site and suitable pre-install application to structural steel in accordance with the accepted project scope and selected system documentation.

New-Build Application

Intumescent coating applied during construction and coordinated with steel erection, access, follow-on trades, inspection and programme requirements.

Existing Steel and Remedial Work

Preparation and coating for refurbishment, upgrades and defined remedial scopes, subject to information about the existing substrate, coating system and required project outcome.

Application QA and Handover Records

Agreed WFT and DFT checks, application-condition records and product information prepared for project-team review and handover.

Project Delivery

How We Plan and Deliver the Work

Each project follows a defined process from information review to handover. We agree the application scope, review accessible steel and substrate conditions, coordinate the work, control coating application and record the inspections required by the project QA plan.
Discuss Your Project
Project Information Review

We review the available fire strategy, structural information, member schedule, coating specification, programme and access requirements with the project team.

Site and Substrate Review

Where required, we inspect accessible steel, existing coatings, contamination, damage, access constraints and conditions that may affect preparation or application.

Controlled Application and Checks

The selected system is applied in planned coats. WFT readings and required application conditions are checked at agreed stages, with DFT measured after sufficient drying or curing.

Project Records

Clear Records for Project-Team Review

We record the agreed application and inspection information for our work scope. This may include product and batch details, application dates, condition checks, WFT and DFT readings, repairs and recorded deviations, giving the project team a clear basis for review and handover.
Project Teams

Who We Work Alongside

We coordinate with the wider project team so the coating works fit the accepted design information, construction programme, access arrangements and site controls. This commonly includes principal contractors, steel fabricators, fire engineers, quantity surveyors, developers and site managers.
