Health & Safety as Standard

Fire protection works demand rigorous planning, competent operatives, and continuous control at every stage of delivery.

Structural steel fire protection is a high-risk, highly regulated discipline that leaves no room for compromise. From access and containment through to product application and quality assurance, every project requires strict control, experienced personnel, and documented systems of work. Our approach to health and safety is embedded into every operation, ensuring compliance, protecting people on site, and delivering work that meets both regulatory and client expectations.

Foundation

Why Health and Safety Matters in Fire Protection

Structural steel fire protection involves high-risk activities including surface preparation, intumescent application, work at height and the use of specialist materials. These operations demand disciplined systems, competent personnel and continuous control to protect operatives, other trades and the integrity of the fire-protection system being installed.

rams

Project-Specific RAMS

Every project is delivered under bespoke Risk Assessments, Method Statements and COSHH assessments, developed specifically for the site conditions, scope of works and materials being used. Generic documentation is never applied; all RAMS are tailored, reviewed and approved prior to works commencing.

RAMS & Job Specifications Developed From Site Survey Data

RAMS and job specifications are developed using detailed site survey data and project-specific requirements, then reviewed by NEBOSH-qualified health and safety advisors. This ensures compliance with current legislation, recognised best practice and principal contractor standards.
  • Legislation and best practice compliance

  • Alignment with principal contractor requirements

  • Site-specific risk assessment and control measures

control

Environmental & Ventilation Control

Ventilation Control

Adequate air movement is assessed and implemented to protect operatives, manage airborne contaminants and maintain system integrity during application.

Temperature Monitoring

Substrate and ambient temperatures are monitored throughout the works to ensure safe working conditions and compliance with product specifications.

Humidity & Dust Control

Relative humidity, dust levels and environmental conditions are actively managed to protect operatives, adjacent trades and coating performance standards.

Competence & Supervision

Competence
01 — Qualified Teams
All personnel in our team are qualified and competent for their roles, holding relevant certifications such as NQVs, CITB, SMSTS, IPAF and CSCS, alongside manufacturer-approved training where required.
Training
02 — Ongoing Development
Competence is maintained through structured in-house training and accredited e-learning, covering health and safety, fire-protection processes and behavioural standards expected on regulated construction sites.
Oversight
03 — Active Supervision
Competent supervisors oversee all works to ensure procedures are followed, safety standards are maintained and site conditions remain controlled throughout application.

Access and working at height

Safe Working at Height & Access Control

MEWPs, scaffolding and fixed working platforms are selected through risk assessment, inspected in accordance with statutory requirements and operated only by trained personnel. Exclusion zones are implemented where required, and all access arrangements are coordinated with site management.

Environmental Conditions for Compliant Application

Substrate temperature, ambient temperature, relative humidity and dew point are monitored before and during application to ensure coatings are applied strictly within manufacturer and specification limits, safeguarding both operative safety and fire-performance compliance.
