This project involved the application of intumescent fire protection to newly installed structural steel within a live manufacturing facility at Procter & Gamble’s Tilbury site. The works formed part of a new internal build, supporting the installation of a control room and associated plant infrastructure.
Due to the operational nature of the facility, all works were carefully planned to integrate with the client’s production schedule and site restrictions.

The steelwork had been pre-primed prior to our involvement, allowing us to proceed directly with surface preparation and compatibility checks. Light mechanical preparation was carried out where required to ensure a sound substrate prior to coating application.
A full intumescent system was then applied in accordance with the project specification, using Thermoguard Thermocoat WI and WO products to achieve a 60-minute fire resistance rating.
Application was completed using airless spray equipment, ensuring consistent film build across all members. The works were delivered across multiple night shifts to allow uninterrupted daytime operation of the facility and to maintain a safe working environment.
Strict health and safety controls were implemented throughout, including segregation, permit-to-work systems, and full compliance with site-specific safety requirements.

The final stage involved the application of a flame-retardant decorative topcoat to provide a durable, uniform finish. All works were completed within the agreed programme and in full compliance with the specification and manufacturer guidance.
The completed system provides certified fire protection while maintaining the clean, industrial aesthetic required for the operational environment.
